Little Fires Everywhere
I am enjoying watching the series "Little Fires Everywhere" on Hulu. And I started thinking about all of the little fires around me and perhaps around us all. Navigating our current world, both personal and communal is uber challenging right now. Everything is a decision. The decision to go to the dentist's office, the hairdresser, the car repair shop, the beach, a restaurant, seeing a friend or family member and the list goes on and on...

Whatever we decide there are consequences. In the show, Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon navigate a very complicated relationship with lots of issues. I think that our lives are just as complicated right now. How do we survive without combusting at every moment?
Perhaps by being aware that it is all complicated and yet simple. Perhaps we understand that our previous normal wasn't a great way to live. That living in a world where we corrupted our planet and ourselves in order to maintain the status quo did not make us happy. Maybe noticing our current fires is our way to clean up our lives.
Maybe we choose over and over again to honor our own truth.
Maybe we never really liked the dentist and it is time to find a new one.
Maybe we haven't been truthful with a friend and it's time to figure out a healthier connection or let them go.
Maybe our kids or partners have been actively complaining about an issue that deserves our undivided attention.
Maybe our job is so mind-numbing that we are acting out and creating fires to create a connection.
Maybe our animal companions are behaving badly and want to be heard.
Maybe it is not just the government that is dealing with incessant fires but we are too.
Maybe the Covid-19 virus highlights these fires in our daily lives.
Maybe these issues have been here all along and now the danger/ heat of the virus is bringing them to the forefront.
Every day, every moment we can choose to increase or decrease the size of the fires around us.
What will you pay attention to today?
