What if everything is placed in our lives to figure out what our next steps are. What if there are no mistakes and simply opportunities to see deeper into the situation.
I have recently moved from Florida to Maine. The process was fascinating, and I would like to share a bit of it. Infact I have moved several times in my life, and each move brought me closer to my authentic life.
About eight years ago, I moved from NJ to Florida seeking an easier life. And it was easier in some ways. It was lovely dealing with temperate/tropical weather and only having to worry about hurricanes four months of the year. People were friendly and welcoming. I found so many opportunities to volunteer, take classes, join a mixed choir, work with a wide variety of clients, both ages and issues. Home prices were affordable, and living was great.
Then the pandemic came and in my world everything changed. The ease and grace of Sarasota morphed into a crowded, hyper expensive and hurricane prone city.
Then, I moved to Ocala which was nick named the horse capitol and SloCala. Then everything changed again. People began pouring in, tens of thousands of new homes were being built and Ocala became one of the top ten fastest growing cities in the United States.
At this point, I realized a number of things...
I wanted to be near family and old friends
I wanted four seasons again
I wanted to return to the sounds and smells of the pine forests
I wanted a community/tribe that had similar values and ideas.
I wanted to focus less on vacation values and more on living my life with purpose
I wanted a place that had traditions
I wanted a place that valued and took care of the earth
I wanted fresh seasonal apples and dark maple syrup and fresh lobster
I wanted life to be slower and more thoughtful
I started talking about this move and I was met with blank looks. Why would you move out of paradise? I guess that was the answer. I no longer found it to be my paradise.
I find that humans are like acupuncture needles. Wherever we are we bring energy and healing for the earth. When we are ready to move the work is done. And we begin again in our new location.
And I landed in Maine. It took an incredible amount of patience, inner resilience, strength, courage and vision to move up here. I am rediscovering my warm clothes, snow boots, windshield scrapers, established neighborhoods, walking paths without fear of wild boars or alligators and a smaller place to navigate. And I believe that I have found my home. Everyone is searching for home both inside and outside. Often we must find the inside home first.
I feel like Florida helped me to discover my inside home, my comfort with me and then led me to my outside home.
Thank you, Florida and everyone that is reading this. I am grateful to be here and hope to connect with you again.
Since I have a virtual practice and am still licensed in Florida, as well as Maine, I am able to continue working with you.
Blessings to all and may we all find our inside and outside homes.
