Who Are We Anyway?

What if our soul purpose is to be fully unique? There will not be anyone else exactly like us. It is not to make ourselves smaller by fitting into the prescribed culture, religion, politics, family or the business that you were born into but to take a step outside and create our own unique path.

Being unique means following our own inner GPS system. We are always being guided to self-awareness, but we dismiss it as background noise. Perhaps, if we go a bit deeper, we can discover that the background noise is really meant to be foreground.

What if our recent relationship disaster lit up our fears of being alone?

What if the job redundancy mirrored our boredom?

What if our excessive alcohol and drug use protected us from early childhood pain or a disconnect from our higher selves?

What if chronic anxiety mirrored contagion from our parent’s poor decisions?

What if chronic self-harm is mirroring the pain of the people around you?

It is even more than understanding. It is looking inward with self-compassion and kindness and changing the pain into wisdom.

We all have a dark side. It is always present, and it is our best guide to our own uniqueness. Instead of immediately seeking counseling, medication, self-help gurus or a pod cast, maybe take a moment to see if there are any repetitive themes. Is there a truth that you don’t want to look at? Is there a door that you can open that will let in some light and allow you to move forward in a different way? It is easy for us to foist our darkness on to others but that often leads to confusion and more anger. Take a moment and just notice.

Move more slowly. You are much smarter than you think you are.
